Never Give Up

So I finally had to give in to this tennis elbow. I had used every cream, menthol rub and a brace for over a month. It just would not get any better.

So I made an appointment with an orthopedic doctor.

As I sat in the waiting room, I looked around and saw people with various ailments. I wonder at what point these things happen to the human body. Do we just wake up one day and our knee doesn’t bend?

I see young guy who can’t turn his head.

I see an elderly woman in a wheelchair.

I feel compassion for these folks and feel lucky to be as healthy as I am.

I’m called back.

Never had been to this doctor before. A white-haired elderly gentleman comes in sporting double Beltones. Looks as if he might be close to retirement.

I choose to look at him as being well experienced.

And since I was not looking forward to having a needle injected into the tendons at my right elbow, I figured he was well qualified with his age and experience. After the painful injection, he demonstrated various exercises to make my elbow better. He stood up, stretched his arms straight out in front of him and extended his hands backwards.

For a brief moment I thought I was about to hear Diana Ross and the Supremes sing “Stop In The Name Of Love”.

I immediately thought of my friends Amy and Connie and figured they were probably getting a good laugh in heaven.

And so with all these ailments as we get older we just have to maintain. So that was my maintenance for this week.

Never give up. That’s from the mind of me....
